Empower Your Investigations with Advanced Interviewing Techniques

Science-based interviewing is a cutting-edge research-based approach that transforms how information is gathered, ensuring higher quality and accuracy in every interview or interrogation. This method, rooted in rigorous scientific research, offers numerous benefits for both attendees and the agencies that send them. It is scalable from daily patrol field interviews to interrogations on your community's toughest cases. Here's why adopting science-based interviewing can be a game-changer for your organization:

Benefits for the Investigator

  1. Enhanced Information Gathering over legacy methods

    • Attendees are trained in techniques that maximize the amount of accurate information collected from interviews, leading to more comprehensive and useful information.

    • The training incorporates trauma-informed practices, ensuring that attendees are sensitive to the needs and experiences of interviewees, creating a safer and more supportive environment.

  3. Effective Rapport Building

    • Rapport = information; rapport = cooperation. Learn how to build rapport with interviewees and mitigate counter-interrogation strategies.

  4. Bias Mitigation

    • Attendees will be equipped with red team strategies to recognize and overcome their own biases and the biases of others promoting fairer and more balanced investigative practices.

  5. Stronger Evidence Disclosure

    • Strategic Use of Evidence elicits more robust and reliable evidence.

    • Science-based interrogations are shown to gather more confessions over confession-based methods.

No more anxiety or worrying about poor interviews, intimidating interviewees, dealing with difficult people, or going in under-prepared in any investigation. Our science-based interviewing course is non-coercive and research-based. Our investigative methods foster critical thinking and remove biases that are hallmarks of failure found in poor investigations.

Science-Based Interviewing is a research-based course designed to equip those who do investigations and inquiries. It will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to conduct effective and ethical interviews that are proven to collect more information, every time. Taught by experienced law enforcement detectives and leaders, this course combines validated research and practice to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the latest techniques and best practices in investigative interviewing.

Our curriculum is NOT a "system" or a step-by-step process to interviewing that, anecdotally, always works every time almost every time. Those "systems" do not work because that is not how human interaction or memory works. Our process is a constellation of core communication standards derived from empirically validated studies and proven effective in the most sensitive and high-profile investigations.  Simply put, our techniques work; we know because we've used them. And it is not just an opinion: it's validated research.

With over forty years of successful experience leading and investigating homicides, special victim crimes, gun violence, and human trafficking, our instructors have worked the hardest cases and done the tough interviews. Our courses are taught by experienced investigators and interviewers, who have done the work. They will teach you the craft of investigative interviewing, not those unvalidated and poor-performing "tricks of the trade."
